D I S T O R T U N E

détaché with single bow hair (or with several placed on a side), over the sides of a fine tuner, involving bow stick wood

The stroke can produce quite loud grating noise so it needs to be controlled. There are two ways of playing it – one that uses single or few bow hair separated physically from the rest by being snagged on the side of a fine tuner (side toward fingerboard) with bow stick pulled toward oneself. There is a range, dynamics that can be investigated by slow or fast strokes, less or more pulling force.

And the second way to use Distortune is to keep the bow stick next to the fine tuner on the very edge of the tail piece end occasionally push more bow hair toward the fine tuner and focus stroke on its metal body. This second way also gives opportunity to use the sounds of bow stick scrapping the fine tuner, on a side but certainly much effective on the top with flat stick and more surface, which reveals magnificent discovery that fine tuner has overtones too.
Also, percussive potential of the bow stick hitting metal fine tuner in free strokes can be much appreciated.
